The Chrome extension
No exporting, no uploading. A button appears inside the editor you already work in.

- The extension in your CAT tool. Check a job without leaving the editor.
- 1. Open a job and press Run What’s Wrong. In Phrase, XTM, Smartling or WorldServer.
- 2. Press Run QA. The result and the findings arrive in the card.
- 3. Press Insert. The fix goes into the segment, as if you typed it.
- 4. Save it in the editor as usual. The extension never saves for you.
- Next: Read the report. Open report shows every finding.
- Install What's Wrong by Still Needs a Human from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open the extension and press Connect once, with your usual sign-in. The connection is also under your name in the app, User settings, Browser extension.
- Open a job in Phrase, XTM, Smartling or WorldServer.
- Press Run What's Wrong at the bottom right.
It uses the session you are already signed in to and never asks for your CAT tool password. The report lands in the app like any other run, with the extension as its trigger. The same profile rules apply.
What it reads
The segments on the page you have open, source and target, with their tags. It sends them to your workspace for the check. Nothing in your editor changes unless you press Insert on a fix.
Insert a fix
The result lists the findings with the fix for each one, and below them the edits saved in the report, marked Saved in the report.
-
Click the segment number of a finding. The editor moves to that segment.
-
Read the fix, then press Insert. The fix goes into the target you have open, as if you typed it.
The words the fix changes are marked inside it, so you see the change before you insert it.
-
Check the target and save or confirm it in the editor as you always do. The extension never saves, confirms or submits anything.
One press inserts one segment. A segment you inserted is marked Inserted in the report and is not offered again.
Insert only goes ahead when it is safe:
- The segment you have open must be the segment of the fix. If it is not, the card asks you to click that segment first.
- The target must still be the one the check read. If you or someone else changed it since, the card says This segment changed since the check and offers Copy instead.
- A fix that adds, removes or repeats a tag is never inserted. Where the editor cannot take a fix as it stands, the card offers Copy: paste it and make the change in the editor.
- If the target does not read as the fix afterwards, the card warns you and offers Undo. The editor's own undo works too.
Insert a fix into your editor in one click. Insert works in WorldServer and Phrase, including editors built on Phrase: press it and the fix goes straight into the open segment. In XTM Cloud and Smartling, Insert is still in testing, so press Copy and paste the fix into the segment. Copy works in every editor and copies the fix as plain text, without tag markers.
Insert in Phrase
In the Phrase editor the extension never clicks into a segment for you, because Phrase saves the segment you leave.
- Click the segment number of a finding. The editor scrolls to that segment and the card asks you to click into its target.
- Click into the target, then press Insert. The tags stay exactly as they are and only the words between them change.
- The card says Inserted. Check it, then move on to save it. Phrase saves the segment when you move to another one. The report marks the segment as inserted when you press Insert, before Phrase saves it.
Good to know:
- A confirmed segment takes the fix and loses its tick, as when you type. Confirm it again when you are happy with it.
- Use the card's Undo to take an insert back. It works while the target still reads as the fix; once you have typed in it, undo in the editor. After an Undo the card offers Insert again. Do not use Cmd+Z or Ctrl+Z across segments after Phrase has saved: in Phrase that undo can change another segment. Inside the segment you are in, the editor's own undo is fine.
- The card's Undo changes the editor only. The report still marks the segment as inserted; undo that in the report.
- Insert is never offered on a locked segment, and it types nothing into a segment Phrase does not let you edit. On a job you cannot edit, Phrase shows no editor, so there is nothing to insert into and the card offers Copy.
- If the editor does not take the fix as expected, the extension puts the segment back the same way and records nothing. If it cannot, the card names the segment to check.
- If Phrase changes its editor so that the extension no longer recognises it, Insert turns itself off and Copy stays.
To turn Insert off for a site, open the extension on that site and clear Insert into the editor on this site.
Disconnecting
User settings, Browser extension in the app lists the connection and lets you remove it. Removing the extension from Chrome ends it too.
Connect, for everyone
Each person presses Connect this browser, which signs the extension in as them. There is no shared token to paste: a workspace's extension always runs as a person of that workspace.
